Fickenscher

Edward R. Fickenscher, director of business development in the Office of Technology Management (OTM), died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012. He was 68.

Fickenscher joined Washington University in 1990 after serving as a naval officer for 25 years. In his most recent position as business development director, he specialized in engineering, radiology and applied science. He enjoyed helping professors transfer their work into start-up companies, and his dedication and commitment was an integral part of the OTM’s success and growth.

“Ed was not only a valued colleague and member of the OTM but also a great person who always was available to help faculty and students,” says Bradley Castanho, PhD, assistant vice chancellor for research and director of OTM. “He worked very hard to provide faculty and students with the support needed to extend their research and careers.”

A memorial service celebrating Fickenscher’s life was held Sept. 21 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Webster Groves.

He is survived by his wife, Marsha; children, Stephanie Fickenscher, Juli Blois (Mike), Elaine Fickenscher, Louis Fickenscher, Brooke Williams (Chris), Heidi Paul (Brian) and Brandi Mason (Dave); siblings, Carol Russell (Mark) and Leif Fickenscher; grandchildren and many other relatives.
