Thirteen graduates of the School of Continuing & Professional Studies Prison Education Project received their degrees May 28 during a commencement ceremony held at the Women’s Eastern Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center in Vandalia, Mo.

Alumnus Carlo Bruno draws on a century of adventure, family and the value of a college education – even one that took nearly two decades to complete.

Dierdre Lockette grew up passionate about writing, but sensible about her financial future, so she chose a career in accounting. Three decades later, Lockette is completing her undergraduate degree from the WashU School of Continuing & Professional Studies, where she has discovered a new passion: research.

Everyone has reckoned with uncertainty. Should I switch majors? Can I be a better leader? Or, in the case of WashU alumnus Sam Goodwin, will I be slaughtered by my Syrian captors? Goodwin speaks about winning through uncertainty at Graham Chapel at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21.

At the age of 31, WashU student Rebecca Cornett is planning for retirement. Cornett is a dancer for Saint Louis Ballet, which is currently staging “The Nutcracker.” She also is one of several dancers pursuing their educations at the School of Continuing & Professional Studies.

Twelve new graduates of the School of Continuing & Professional Studies Prison Education Project received their degrees May 14 during a commencement ceremony held at the Missouri Eastern Correctional Center in Pacific.

The WashU Empower program will receive a “What’s Right with the Region” Award from Focus St. Louis at its 28th annual celebration event May 15. An initiative of the School of Continuing & Professional Studies, the program gives individuals with limited English proficiency the next-level English and professional skills they need to find jobs that match their talents and training.

Can a self-described wallflower be a leader? Absolutely, says Shana Brooks, who is set to earn her undergraduate degree in political science from WashU’s School of Continuing & Professional Studies. 

WashU’s School of Continuing & Professional Studies is launching a new program that prepares adult learners for high-demand jobs in medical and research laboratories.  Grants are available to cover the full cost of tuition for eligible students.
