Gabby Reuveni, undergraduate, 20

Gabby Reuveni, an undergraduate at Washington University in St. Louis, died Saturday, July 14, 2012, after being struck by a pickup truck while running in Palmyra Township, Pa. Reuveni, 20, was a member of the Washington University women’s cross country and track & field teams.

Reuveni was a rising junior from Paramus, N.J., majoring in international and area studies/sustainable development and minoring in marketing.

“The whole Washington University cross country and track & field program, everyone is mourning and grieving, and we’re going to miss her beyond words,” says Jeff Stiles, Washington University’s head cross country and track & field coach. “It’s just sober. It’s just shock. And we’re devastated. And words don’t do justice.”

Reuveni was an Academic All-University Athletic Association (UAA) selection in cross country and indoor and outdoor track & field as a sophomore. Reuveni also was a member of the 2011 NCAA Division III National Championship women’s cross country team and a member of Alpha Phi sorority.

“We were fortunate to have Gabby in the Washington University family. She took great pride in her education, her sorority and student-athlete experiences,” says Washington University Director of Athletics John Schael. “A valued teammate and friend, Gabby touched the lives of many, many people on Washington University’s campus as well as the broader St. Louis community. She will be remembered as a wonderful young woman who brought positive light into the lives of others.”

The 2010 Paramus High School valedictorian, Reuveni is survived by her parents, Michael and Jacqueline; sister, Jessica (18); and brother,Zachary (16).

A funeral service was held July 17 at Robert Schoem’s Menorah Chapel in Paramus, N.J.

A campus memorial service is being planned for the fall.
