Anne Fagan, an internationally recognized expert on fluid biomarkers of Alzheimer’s disease and a professor of neurology at the School of Medicine, has been named the 2023 recipient of the Khalid Iqbal Lifetime Achievement Award by the Alzheimer’s Association.

Ruochen Chen, a doctoral candidate in history in Arts & Sciences, has won a Gale Non-Residential Fellowship from the Association for Asian Studies.

Kenneth Olsen, a professor of biology in Arts & Sciences, was installed as a George William and Irene Koechig Freiberg Professor of Biology in a Sept. 27 ceremony held in Holmes Lounge. His installation address was titled “Plants, evolution and living in clover.”

Carl Phillips, a professor of English in Arts & Sciences, will receive the 2023 Tradition of Literary Excellence Award from the University City Municipal Commission on Arts & Letters.

Rebecca Dresser, the Daniel Noyes Kirby Professor of Law Emerita, has been named recipient of the 2023 Bioethics Founders’ Award, presented by The Hastings Center.

Ashlynn Berry is one of 60 graduate students from across the country — and the only one in Missouri — selected to participate in the Department of Energy’s Office of Science Graduate Student Research (SCGSR) fellowship program.

The Excellence in Teaching Awards program, sponsored by Emerson, annually recognizes educators in the St. Louis metropolitan area, from kindergarten teachers to college professors, who are examples of excellence in their field. WashU has nine honorees this year.

Jeannette Cooperman and John Griswold, both staff writers for The Common Reader, the journal of essays and ideas housed at Washington University, have been named to the Notable Essays list in “Best American Essays 2023.”

“Digital Learning and Teaching in Chemistry,” co-edited by Gabriela Mirowitz in Arts & Sciences, features WashU chemistry instructors and explores high-tech approaches to learning beyond the lab.

“Object Lessons,” the long-running series of pocket-sized books that explores the secret lives of ordinary things, is now based in the Program in Public Scholarship in Arts & Sciences.
