The National Science Foundation recently awarded WashU a prestigious five-year ADVANCE-Institutional Transformation grant.

Trained as an engineer, Janie Brennan, a senior lecturer at the WashU McKelvey School of Engineering, now builds courses instead of machines. She’s using her classroom to peel away systemic and cultural barriers to engineering. 

One of WashU’s fundamental missions is to help students develop into the global leaders of tomorrow, by cultivating habits of lifelong learning and critical and ethical thinking.

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) has named Washington University in St. Louis doctoral candidate Rubén A. García-Reyes and his adviser, Daniel C. Castro, to the 2024 cohort of the Gilliam Fellows Program.

Four members of the WashU community are recipients of the St. Louis Business Journal’s 2024 Champions for Diversity & Inclusion Awards.

Dwight A. McBride, the Gerald Early Distinguished Professor in Arts & Sciences and a senior advisor to the chancellor, is the new executive director of the Center for the Study of Race, Ethnicity & Equity.

The STARS College Network, which partners with top colleges to help students from small towns and rural communities enroll in, succeed at and graduate from the undergraduate program of their choice, is doubling its membership to include 32 of the nation’s universities. WashU, a founding STARS member, is recruiting and enrolling more rural students since it joined the network last year.

The Bouchet Graduate Honor Society, established in 2005 by Yale University and Howard University to recognize outstanding scholarly achievement, recently inducted eight doctoral candidates and two postdoctoral fellows from Washington University.

Postdoctoral research scholar Sade Williams Clayton works to advocate and build community for postdoctoral research trainees and others. She recently received a national award from the National Postdoctoral Association for her efforts.
