Tori Harwell, a junior studying African and African American studies and environmental analysis in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, has been named a Udall Scholar, an honor bestowed on students who have demonstrated leadership in the areas of the environment and conservation, tribal public policy or Native American health care.
Harwell is a Mellon Mays Scholar, an Ervin Scholar and a Gephardt Institute Goldman Fellow. After graduation, Harwell plans to earn her PhD and JD and wants to empower communities of color to create equitable strategies to mitigate climate change, develop green energy programs and build sustainable food systems.
As one of the nation’s 55 Udall Scholars, Harwell will receive a $7,000 scholarship.
