Locks of Love hair donation event set for Nov. 14

A Locks of Love hair donation and haircut event will be held from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, in the Danforth University Center Fun Room. Donate 10 inches of hair to receive a free professional haircut or get a professional cut for a $20 donation.

Appointments are recommended for those with a tight schedule; walk-in appointments are accepted based on availability. To sign up for an appointment, visit wulol.wustl.edu.

Locks of Love is a national nonprofit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children who suffer from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.

Student organizers hope to match last year’s goal and collect 24 ponytails and $800. Each wig requires about five ponytails and costs up to $6,000 because it is made from human hair and is custom-fitted to the child’s head. The wigs are provided to the families at significantly reduced cost, using a sliding scale relative to the family’s income.

Sixteen stylists and five supervising stylists from Paul Mitchell The School St. Louis will be on hand for the event.
