CRE² accepting applications for funding
The Center for the Study of Race, Ethnicity & Equity invites its faculty affiliates to apply for course innovation grants of up to $5,000. Tila Neguse, senior associate director, says the grants are designed to support next-generation learning opportunities that bring students together to better understand race and ethnicity. Applications are due Nov. 25.
Zhang receives doctoral dissertation award
Linying Zhang, an assistant professor of biostatistics at WashU Medicine, received the American Medical Informatics Association 2024 Edward H. Shortliffe Doctoral Dissertation Award honorable mention.

Bang wins University City literary award
Mary Jo Bang, a professor of English in Arts & Sciences, will receive the 2024 Tradition of Literary Excellence Award from the University City Municipal Commission on Arts & Letters.
Hylarie McMahon, professor emerita, artist, 94
Hylarie McMahon, a professor emerita of art in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, died in hospice Oct. 1 following a short illness. She was 94.

Nickolas to lead Division of Bone and Mineral Diseases
Thomas Nickolas, MD, a respected clinical nephrologist and researcher focused on kidney disease and bone health, has been named the next director of the Division of Bone and Mineral Diseases in the Department of Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

East entrance to Central West End MetroLink station to temporarily close
The east entrance and walkway connecting the Central West End MetroLink station platform with bus bays at the transit center, near the Medical Campus, will temporarily close at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17. They will reopen Monday, Oct. 21.
