Student Nwumeh wins undergraduate science award

Ron Nwumeh, a junior studying biology with a concentration in molecular biology and biochemistry and research assistant in the lab of Joseph Jez, PhD, in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, recently received the 2015 Merck Undergraduate Science Research Scholarship Award.

This honor, presented by the United Negro College Fund, is awarded based on a candidate’s GPA; demonstrated interest in a scientific field; and potential for a successful career in scientific research or engineering.

Nwumeh is also the recipient of the 2015 Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s Exceptional Research Opportunities Program fellowship. After graduation, Nwumeh hopes to work as a medical scientist and help translate scientific discoveries to better human health.
