Washington University in St. Louis basketball player Charlie Jacob was the inaugural recipient of the Justin Hardy Courage Award, which was established to honor the legacy of basketball forward Justin Hardy, who died in 2022 after his battle with stomach cancer.
Hardy’s father, Bob Hardy, presented the award to Jacob at the 37th Annual Scholar-Champions’ Celebration May 1 in the Field House. Jacob is a two-time UAA Defensive Player of the Year and a team leader.
“Being recognized for embodying the spirit and values of Justin Hardy is the greatest honor there is. It meant the world to me,” said Jacob, who just completed a master’s degree, and previously earned a bachelor’s, both in business administration from WashU. “I hope that this serves as a reminder that Justin’s courage, leadership and unwavering selflessness epitomize what it means to be a WashU student-athlete. It was the perfect end to my college experience. I will cherish this memory for the rest of my life.”
