Washington University rolls out “Courtesy is Contagious” campaign

As the number of cyclists on the Washington University in St. Louis campus has grown significantly, so too have conflicts between pedestrians and cyclists.

To address this, the Parking and Transportation Services and Sustainability offices have rolled out the “Courtesy is Contagious” campaign to remind all users of WUSTL paths that a little courtesy can go a long way. Signs have been posted across the university with messages such as “Bicyclists: Path crowded? Walk your wheels”; “Pedestrians and bikes: Be alert. Don’t text and walk/ride”; and “Pedestrians always have the right-of-way.”

Alternative Transportation Coordinator Andy Heaslet encourages cycling, but he also urges cyclists to roll responsibly and pedestrians to walk aware. He invites community members to call him with questions or concerns at (314) 935-9275.
