Faculty, staff and students are invited to enroll in “Be the Match,” a national bone marrow registry, at various times and locations Wednesday, Feb. 13.
Thousands of patients with leukemia, lymphoma, sickle cell and other life-threatening diseases are waiting for a bone marrow transplant, and the registry connects those in needs with individuals willing to be a donor.
Registration takes only 20 minutes and a cheek swab, and no appointment is necessary. Locations and times for the daylong event are:
• Danforth University Center, Room 276 — 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Lopata Hall Gallery — 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Ursa’s Fireside, South 40 — 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Registrants should be age 18-44, in general good health, and be willing to donate to any patient in need. If identified as a match in the future, 80 percent of donations are similar to donating blood or platelets.
