Nominations for the 2015 Harvey A. and Dorismae Hacker Friedman Award for Excellence in Service to Older Adults are now open to anyone within the St. Louis region who has made an outstanding contribution in service to older adults.
The award is presented annually by the Harvey A. Friedman Center for Aging, part of the Institute for Public Health at Washington University in St. Louis. Contributions through practice, education, advocacy or research all will be considered.
Communities throughout the United States are undergoing an unprecedented population shift, resulting in more residents over the age of 60 than under the age of 15. Professionals from many sectors — such as healthcare, business, social work, law and design — are needed to respond to the unique and diverse needs of older adults in our communities.
To honor all professionals who currently work in issues related to aging, the Friedman family has selected to expand its annual professional development award, offered since 2003.
“My family and I are pleased to expand the geographical outreach in search of Friedman Award recipients,” said Lynn Friedman Hamilton, daughter of Harvey and Dorismae Friedman. “There are so many qualified professionals in aging in our service area, all of whom are doing exemplary work with great passion. We are proud that we will have the opportunity to recognize them annually and offer them support to continue to advance their service to older adults in the St. Louis region.”
Award recipients receive formal public recognition of the award at the annual Friedman Lecture, scheduled this year for April 22. They also will receive a plaque and up to $3,000 for aging-related professional development endeavors including conference related fees and travel expenses, books, journal subscriptions, field or research related software/hardware, etc.
The award continues to be supported by the Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital from the Harvey A. and Dorismae Hacker Friedman Endowment for Aging Fund.
Nominations should be sent to centerforaging@wustl.edu and must include a letter of recommendation and the nominee’s contact information. The deadline is Friday, March 6. Questions can be directed to Stephanie Herbers at 314-747-9234.
