Flags lowered in memory of former President Jimmy Carter
The U.S. and university flags over Brookings Hall are lowered to half-staff in memory of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter until sunset Jan. 28. Carter died Dec. 29 at age 100.
Holiday light recycling ends Jan. 16
WashU’s annual recycling drive for old or broken holiday lights is underway and runs through Thursday, Jan. 16. Collection bins are available on the Medical, Danforth, West and North campuses as well as The Link at the Loop.
WashU Libraries offer free access to newspapers
Faculty, staff and students have access to national and local news publications such as The New York Times, St. Louis Post-Dispatch and St. Louis Business Journal through the university’s library system.
Hundreds turn out to test drive Workday Student
Nearly 1,500 students, faculty, advisers and others recently participated in hands-on practice events, and provided feedback, as WashU prepares for the first use of Workday Student in February. Online support is available, and instructor-led adviser training will begin in January.
Board of Trustees ad hoc committee continues work, seeks input
The ad hoc committee established by the WashU Board of Trustees to review the university’s policies and guidelines governing on-campus protests and demonstrations is continuing its work and expects to submit a report in March. WashU community input is welcome.

WashU again recognized as bike-friendly university
A national bicycle advocacy group recently recognized WashU as a bike- friendly campus, re-awarding the university its Gold level.
Recycle election yard signs on campus
WashU has joined a regional effort to collect a new hard-to-recycle material: election yard signs, from Nov. 6-14. In addition to signs from home, the program also will accept office or departmental corrugated plastic signs and metal stakes.
Home to 6,500 trees, WashU Arboretum earns rare status
The WashU Arboretum, home to some 6,500 trees across the Danforth Campus, recently received Level III accreditation by the ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program.
