Chancellor Andrew D. Martin has appointed a committee to begin the process of identifying the next dean of WashU Medicine. David H. Perlmutter, MD, will conclude his deanship in June 2026.

Board of Trustees elects new members
The Washington University in St. Louis Board of Trustees has elected a new trustee to a four-year term. In addition, a new vice chair and four undergraduate and graduate student representatives were elected for the 2025–26 academic year.
West appointed provost at Washington University in St. Louis
Mark D. West, a renowned legal scholar and former dean of the University of Michigan Law School, has been appointed provost of Washington University in St. Louis, effective August 1, according to Chancellor Andrew D. Martin.
Friend named chair of mechanical engineering, materials science
James Friend, of the University of California, San Diego, has been named chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering & Materials Science in the McKelvey School of Engineering. His appointment will begin in 2026.
Wendland to complete role as provost
Beverly R. Wendland, provost and executive vice chancellor for academic affairs, will complete her provost appointment after a successful five-year term in the role. Her transition is effective July 31, according to Chancellor Andrew D. Martin.
Phillips-Cremins named BJC investigator
Jennifer Phillips-Cremins, a pioneer in understanding 3D genome structure and its impact on the brain, will join WashU Medicine as BJC Investigator.
Board grants faculty appointments, tenure
At the WashU Board of Trustees meeting in May, numerous faculty members were appointed, promoted or granted tenure, with most taking effect July 1.
