The new home of the Center for Career Engagement and alumni welcome building at Washington University in St. Louis — set to open in early 2027 — will be named the Neil S. Hirsch Center in recognition of a pledge to support the facility from Hirsch’s widow, Laura DeLuca Hirsch, through the Neil S. Hirsch Foundation.

William J. Maxwell has been installed as the inaugural Fannie Hurst Professor of Creative Literature in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis. A lecture and reception to celebrate his appointment were held recently in Whittemore House.

A project that could help scientists identify novel ways to fight disease is one of the research efforts that will get a significant boost under a new collaboration agreement that Washington University in St. Louis has signed with science and technology company MilliporeSigma.

Renowned physician-scientist and pharmaceutical executive P. Roy Vagelos, MD, and his wife, Diana, have pledged $15 million to support the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) at WashU Medicine. In recognition of the couple’s generosity, the program has been named the Roy Vagelos Medical Scientist Training Program.

Jonathan Judaken was installed as the Gloria M. Goldstein Professor of Jewish History & Thought in Arts & Sciences in April.

The Brown School marked its 100th anniversary with a special celebration during the annual Brown School Awards of Distinction and Centennial Gala, held April 24. The event honored seven individuals for their contributions to social work, public health and social policy.

Ulugbek Kamilov, an engineer at Washington University, has been installed as the inaugural Donald L. Snyder Career Development Professor at the McKelvey School of Engineering.
