The university held its annual Founders Day celebration Nov. 9 to honor the outstanding achievements of some of the university’s most distinguished faculty, alumni and friends.
Yuan named Lucy & Stanley Lopata Professor
Joshua S. Yuan, chair of energy, environmental and chemical engineering at the McKelvey School of Engineering at Washington University, was installed as the Lucy & Stanley Lopata Professor Oct. 17.
Van Engen installed as Stanley Elkin Professor in the Humanities
Abram Van Engen, chair of the Department of English in Arts & Sciences, was recently installed as the Stanley Elkin Professor in the Humanities.
Dedicated home for Arts & Sciences to break ground in spring
A ceremonial groundbreaking for the first building on the Danforth Campus dedicated to Arts & Sciences took place Oct. 8. The building will house some of the school’s premier departments and programs and serve as a cornerstone for scholarly and educational partnerships with other schools and units across campus.
Sanz installed as James W. and Jean L. Davis Professor
Crickette Sanz, a professor of anthropology at Washington University in St. Louis, was installed as the James W. and Jean L. Davis Professor in Arts and Sciences Sept. 4. Her installation address was titled “Learning From Great Apes About Rank.”
Wall installed as Baker Professor
Lindley B. Wall, MD, has been installed as the Jacqueline N. Baker and W. Randolph Baker Professor at WashU Medicine. Wall is a national leader in hand and upper-extremity surgeries for pediatric patients.
Cooper named inaugural French professor
Megan Cooper, MD, PhD, of Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been named the inaugural Anthony R. French, MD, PhD, Professor in Pediatrics.
Mahajan named Urologic Surgery Research Professor
Nupam Mahajan has been named the inaugural Urologic Surgery Research Professor at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Mahajan received the honor in recognition of his research advances on the genetic basis of prostate cancer.
Mary and Tom Stillman receive Harris Award
Mary and Tom Stillman are the recipients of the 2024 Jane and Whitney Harris St. Louis Community Service Award, which recognizes those who contribute to the betterment of the greater St. Louis community.
Mazzeo installed as inaugural Knight Family Professor
Mike Mazzeo, dean of Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis, has been installed as the inaugural Knight Family Professor. The endowed position was made possible by the Knight family, longtime ardent supporters of the Olin, WashU and St. Louis communities.
