Kelley Van Dyck Murphy, Constance Vale and Chandler Ahrens — all architecture faculty at the WashU Sam Fox School — have won a Most Enhanced Award from the Landmarks Association of St. Louis.

The MAK Center for Art and Architecture and the SOM Foundation have named Linda C. Samuels, a professor and chair of urban design at the WashU Sam Fox School, as 2026 researcher-in-residence.

Matthew Allen, a senior lecturer at the WashU Sam Fox School, co-organized “Biographies of the Digital,” a conference for the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montreal. WashU’s Andrew Witt was among the presenters.

Architectural designer Catherine Chen has been selected as the winner of the 2026 James Harrison Steedman Memorial Fellowship in Architecture. The biennial award is organized by the WashU Sam Fox School and AIA St. Louis.

After an EF3 tornado ripped a milewide path through St. Louis and St. Louis County, Amanda Kesler, a master of landscape architecture candidate in the WashU Sam Fox School, combined aerial data and firsthand observation to map tree canopy damage.

Charlie White, the highly regarded artist and academic leader whose vision and student advocacy have helped to build nationally recognized programs at Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Southern California, has been named the Ralph J. Nagel Dean of WashU’s Sam Fox School, announced Chancellor Andrew D. Martin.

“Everything Under the Sun,” a bright pink steel installation by Jonathan Stitelman, a senior lecturer at the WashU Sam Fox School, has been installed in St. Louis’ Covenant Blu Grand Center neighborhood. A grand opening celebration will be held April 3.

Eight finalists have been selected for the James Harrison Steedman Fellowship in Architecture. It’s administered by the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis and by AIA St. Louis.

Eric P. Mumford, the Rebecca and John Voyles Professor of Architecture in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, has been named a 2026 Distinguished Professor by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ASCA).
