WashU has begun the search for its next executive vice chancellor and chief financial officer.
The search is being led by Nichol Luoma, executive vice chancellor and chief operating officer, in partnership with Chancellor Andrew D. Martin.
The search comes as part of planning for an orderly leadership transition. David J. Gray, the current executive vice chancellor for finance, will complete his service in 2027, and the university is undertaking this process well in advance to ensure continuity in the role and a smooth transition.
“David has been an exceptional partner and a steady, trusted voice within our financial operations, and the university is grateful for his continued leadership.” Luoma said.
The position has been posted publicly, and the university welcomes applications from qualified candidates.
A search committee has been formed to guide the process. The members are:

- Kurt Shepherd, vice chancellor for budget and financial planning/chief budget officer
- Mark West, provost and executive vice chancellor for academic affairs
- Gregory Zipfel, MD, chair, Department of Neurosurgery, WashU Medicine
