Benjamin Garcia, the Raymond H. Wittcoff Distinguished Professor and head of the WashU Medicine Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics, has received the American Chemical Society’s 2025 Saint Louis Section Award.

The National Academy of Inventors has elected two Washington University in St. Louis faculty members to its 2025 cohort of fellows: Jennifer N. Silva, MD, and Lan Yang.

Robert E. Hegel, in Arts & Sciences, has won the Aldo and Jeanne Scaglione Prize from the Modern Language Association of America for his translation of “The Heroic Adventures of Qin Shubao,” from “Forgotten Tales of the Sui” by Chinese dramatist and writer Yuan Yuling (1599–1674).

Washington University in St. Louis senior Omar Abdelmoity received the prestigious Marshall Scholarship, which provides American students the opportunity to study in the United Kingdom. Abdelmoity plans to earn an advanced degree in evidence-based social intervention and policy evaluation from Oxford University and a second advanced degree in population health sciences from Cambridge University.

Matthew Lew, at the McKelvey School of Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis, has been elected to the 2026 class of Optica fellows.

Jonathan B. Losos, PhD, and Charles F. Zorumski, MD, are the recipients of Washington University in St. Louis’ 2025 faculty achievement awards, according to Chancellor Andrew D. Martin. They were among several people recognized during WashU’s annual Founders Day celebration.

Rachel Roberts, a professor of mathematics at Washington University in St. Louis, has been named a fellow of the American Mathematical Society for 2026.

Angie L. Leahy, associate vice chancellor for finance and controller at WashU, is the recipient of the prestigious National Association of College and University Business Officers Tax Award.

Ten Washington University in St. Louis faculty members have been selected as 2025 Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award recipients.

Doctoral student Ruiqi Wang at Washington University in St. Louis has received a prestigious Google PhD fellowship for health research.
