Taking health care to the world September 21, 2011 SHARE The Global Health Scholars Internal Medicine Program brought the world to the Ellen S. Clark Hope Plaza as part of its inaugural Global Health Scholars Week Sept. 18-24. At a marketplace with international food, crafts and entertainment, (from left) Global Health Scholars and Barnes-Jewish Hospital residents Rohan Ahluwalia, MD, and Tima Karaki, MD, talk with Jan Muraski, transportation services manager at the medical school, about the efforts of the program. Its goal is to promote global health education and improve care for underserved communities worldwide. Behind them is an ambulance designed by Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts faculty and students that will be donated by the Global Health Scholars to a cancer center in Guatemala. University engineering students also retrofitted medical equipment that will accompany the ambulance. As part of the weeklong celebration, a St. Louis community health fair will be held in the plaza Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
