Campus Store begins renovations but remains open

Renovations will increase size of store, add new entrance, allow for expanded offerings

The Washington University Campus Store began renovations in December to expand the store, add a new entrance, update interior space and create a more open floor plan.

The Campus Store, located in the Mallinckrodt Center on the Danforth Campus, will remain open during construction and continue to offer general books, academic course material, clothing, gifts and convenience items.

The renovations are scheduled to be complete in August 2011. Changes include a larger lower level, a new entrance from Forsyth Boulevard, an expanded entrance from inside Mallinckrodt, and new carpeting, lighting fixtures and furniture.

The store also will add a new staircase to its lower level. A FedEx services location will move into the Campus Store in March 2011, providing a convenient location for shipping, printing and copying on the Danforth Campus.

The expansion will provide more space for academic general books, academic course material, clothing, gifts and convenience items. It also will add more social spaces, giving the Campus Store the capability to offer new and expanded programming and host small and mid-size events, says Campus Store director Betsy Schneider.

“A prestigious institution such as Washington University warrants a flagship store of the highest standard of products and services available to support the academic mission of the university,” Schneider says.

“With the remodel, the Campus Store will enhance its ability to offer a flexible, comfortable environment to the campus community.

“We welcome you to shop at the store during our remodel,” Schneider says. “We intend to provide the same great customer service to which the university community has grown accustomed.”

As part of its contract renewal with WUSTL, Follett Higher Education Group is financially supporting the renovation and worked in collaboration with Mackey Mitchell Architects and Washington University to design the facility.

Paric Corp. will perform the renovations, and the installation of carpeting, paint and fixtures will be done by Granger Contracting Co. of St. Louis.
