Samuels named director of sustainable design, environmental justice
Linda C. Samuels, a professor and chair of urban design in WashU’s Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, has been named the school’s inaugural director of sustainable design and environmental justice.
‘Design Agendas: Modern Architecture in St. Louis, 1930s–1970s’
The Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum at Washington University in St. Louis will present “Design Agendas: Modern Architecture in St. Louis, 1930s–1970s” beginning Sept. 13. With nearly 300 architectural drawings, models, photographs, films, digital maps and artworks, “Design Agendas” is the first major exhibition to examine how interlocking civic, cultural and racial histories, as well as conflicting ideological aims, reshaped the city.

Twelve alumni earn Fulbright awards
Twelve recent alumni of Washington University in St. Louis earned Fulbright awards to travel abroad to teach English or to conduct research in the 2024-25 academic year.
Adare Brown wins Steedman Fellowship in Architecture
Brooklyn, N.Y.-based architect Adare Brown has been selected as winner of the 2023-24 James Harrison Steedman Memorial Fellowship in Architecture. Established in 1926, the biannual $75,000 prize, which supports research through international travel, is among the largest such fellowships in the United States.
The next generation of design
The Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, in collaboration with the McKelvey School of Engineering, will launch a new Master of Design for Human-Computer Interaction and Emerging Technology in fall 2025. Housed in Weil Hall, it will be the first STEM-designated graduate program situated within the Sam Fox School’s College of Art.
Peace Park planting May 18
The Sam Fox School, the Green City Coalition and Peace Park Partners are seeking volunteers to help plant native perennials from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at Peace Park in St. Louis’ College Hill neighborhood.
