McKelvey School of Engineering graduate student Garrett Roell has been accepted into the Office of Science Graduate Student Research program, a prestigious research opportunity funded by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science.

Robert Schmidt, MD, PhD, professor of pathology and immunology at Washington University School of Medicine, has received the Meritorious Contributions to Neuropathology Award from the American Association of Neuropathologists.

The Washington University Danforth Staff Council has added 10 new members and elected its executive officers for the academic year.

Mark V. Williams, MD, a respected leader in hospital medicine, performance improvement and health-care delivery, has been named director of the Division of Hospital Medicine in the Department of Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine. His appointment takes effect Oct. 1.

Abram Van Engen, professor of English in Arts & Sciences, has co-edited a new collection of essays about religious feeling in early American history and literature. 

William B. Tolman has been appointed vice dean of research and entrepreneurship in Arts & Sciences, Dean Feng Sheng Hu announced. Tolman is the William Greenleaf Eliot Professor of Chemistry. 

Michael Sherraden, the George Warren Brown Distinguished University Professor at the Brown School, has received the 2021 James Billups International Social Development Leadership Award from the International Consortium for Social Development.

Architecture students from the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts have placed third in the National Park Service’s 2021 Charles E. Peterson Prize Competition.
