The Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts will honor seven outstanding art and architecture alumni for demonstrating creativity, innovation, leadership and vision in their respective fields April 8 as part of the school’s annual Awards for Distinction ceremony.

Jessica Wagenseil, associate professor and vice dean for faculty advancement at the McKelvey School of Engineering, has received a two-year $100,000 grant from the Marfan Foundation for a project titled “Targeting elastic fiber degradation in thoracic aortic aneurysms.”

Washington University has been named a top place for women to work in the annual “Women in the Workplace: Employment Scorecard.”

Farshid Guilak, the Mildred B. Simon Research Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and co-director of the Washington University Center of Regenerative Medicine, has received the 2021 Elizabeth Winston Lanier Kappa Delta Award for his research involving the treatment of arthritic joints.

The Gateway Army ROTC Battalion at Washington University in St. Louis received the inaugural Department of Defense Reserve Officers’ Training Corps and Educational Institution Partnership Excellence Award on March 15.

Steven Frankel, assistant professor of mathematics and statistics in Arts & Sciences, received a CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation for his project “Universal Circles Between Dynamics and Geometry.”

Faisal Ahmad, a second-year medical student at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, is one of 55 recipients of a $5,000 summer research fellowship from the Alpha Omega Alpha National Honor Medical Society.

John Hendrix, professor and chair of the Master of Fine Arts in Illustration & Visual Culture program at the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, has been named Educator of the Year by 3×3, The Magazine of Contemporary Illustration.

Michael Wysession, professor of earth and planetary sciences in Arts & Sciences, was recently named the winner of the 2021 Geosciences in the Media Award of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. The honor recognizes Wysession’s many achievements in promoting geoscience literacy and education.
