The Washington University School of Law in St. Louis recognized six alumni who have achieved success in their respective fields during its Distinguished Alumni Awards dinner, held April 8 at Anheuser-Busch Hall.

Jordan Simmons, a senior majoring in global studies in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, was selected as a 2024 Donald M. Payne International Development Fellow. The program is aimed at those interested in careers in the Foreign Service of the U.S. Agency for International Development.

Jonathan Fenderson, an associate professor of African and African American studies in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, has won a 2024 New Directions Fellowship from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

The 41st annual Brown School Awards of Distinction took place April 11 at the Forest Park Visitor Center. Each year, the Brown School honors alumni and friends who create positive change for people around the globe.

Ziyad Al-Aly, MD, a clinical epidemiologist at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been named to the inaugural Time100 Health, a new, annual list of 100 individuals who have most influenced global health.

Student Life, Washington University in St. Louis’ independent student newspaper, won 22 individual awards at the Missouri College Media Association Conference, held April 6 in Kansas City, Mo.

Washington University Libraries has awarded eight members of the campus community a Newman Exploration Travel Fund Award. The NEXT award program supports WashU students, faculty and staff who wish to explore the globe while pursuing both personal and professional goals.

Nine researchers at the School of Medicine have received funding from the Longer Life Foundation — a cooperative effort between the School of Medicine and the Reinsurance Group of America. The foundation supports research aimed at improving human health, wellness and longevity.

Anca Parvulescu, the Liselotte Dieckmann Professor in Comparative Literature and a professor of English, both in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, will serve as principal investigator for a $1.2 million grant exploring the history of comparatism and the origins of the comparative method.
