On its 10-year anniversary, the McDonnell International Scholars Academy, Washington University in St. Louis’ lead international initiative, has much to celebrate: a strong network of 29 partner research universities around the world, 67 scholars in residence, 72 academy alumni and countless collaborations and connections.
“The McDonnell Academy ‘Scholars for Life’ inspire us all as they take on important issues of tomorrow,” said Wertsch, the David R. Francis Distinguished Professor.
In addition to the scholars program, the McDonnell Academy provides a platform for important education and research collaborations. Through focused efforts like the McDonnell Global Energy and Environment Partnership, Washington University, corporate sponsors and McDonnell Academy partner institutions are tackling some of the world’s most pressing problems through joint research projects.
The McDonnell Academy also has convened five international symposia, with the first four focused on energy, the environment and sustainability. Building on the momentum of the first meetings, the fifth symposium, held in October 2014, added food and water, population aging, and public health to the meeting agenda.
The next McDonnell Academy International Symposium, co-hosted by academy partner University of Queensland, will be held in September 2016 in Brisbane, Australia.
