Research Without Walls

The Brown School’s third annual Research Without Walls student symposium was held April 22 in the hallways of Brown and Goldfarb halls on the Danforth Campus of Washington University in St. Louis, with students such as Jaclyne Smith (above, in pink) presenting projects and research they worked on throughout the academic year. Smith’s project was “Facilitators and Barriers to Coordinating Care for Pregnant Female Veterans.” Research Without Walls gives students practice in presenting their research to peers, professors and the public in a relaxed, informal setting. (Below) Matt Kreuter, PhD, associate dean for public health and professor at the Brown School, presents the award for Outstanding Culminating Experience to Rebecca Gernes for her project, “Place, Pollution, and Health: Environmental and Social Predictors of Asthma in the St. Louis Region.” Awards also were given for outstanding posters depicting internationally, nationally, regionally and locally focused research projects. In addition, outstanding displays of quantitative and qualitative information were recognized, and this year’s guest speaker was Sherrill Wayland, MSW ’08, founding executive director of SAGE Metro St. Louis.
