Olin Business School has released the second issue of its recently re-vamped Research Review highlighting faculty research and presentations in the last half of 2009. The Review, with abstracts and links to research papers, is available on line.
“The objective of the Research Review is twofold,” according to Mahendra Gupta, Olin Dean and the Geraldine J. & Robert L. Virgil professor of accounting and management. “First, the Research Review helps keep our faculty and the entire Olin community informed about the latest research underway across Olin. Equally important, it celebrates the renowned research productivity of and knowledge creation by our faculty.”
The new issue of the Research Review contains abstracts for more than 40 academic journal articles and more than one hundred conference and workshop presentations by Olin faculty.
Olin senior associate dean and John E. Simon professor of finance Anjan Thakor lauds the research output of the Olin faculty as “nothing short of spectacular.” He says, “forty-three faculty members listed forty-one publications and seventy-three research presentations. There were sixty-five research workshops. The breadth and depth of the research our faculty have been engaged in over the past year is remarkable and highlights the significant contributions they are making to solving the many complex problems confronting business and society today.”
From timely topics such as executive compensation and a pending Supreme Court decision that could change auditing oversight for publicly traded firms to health care quality, Olin faculty research offers expert analysis of problems and solutions to global business issues.
Published research covers all areas from accounting and economics to operations and strategy. Here are just a few paper topics included in the new issue of the Review:
• Why is the recent financial crisis a ‘once-in-a-century’ event? by Guofu Zhou, Financial Analysts Journal
• Time of day effects on surgical outcomes in the private sector by Bart Hamilton, Journal of the American College of Surgeons
• Exclusivity, contingent control rights and the design of internet portal alliances, by Dan Elfenbein, Journal of Law, Economics and Organization
• Strategic flexibility and optimality of pay for sector performance, by Radha Gopalan and Todd Milbourn, Review of Financial Studies
Dean Gupta welcomed the publication of the review. “High-quality research is the lifeblood of a great research university. Olin faculty members are recognized the world over for their important contributions to the creation of new knowledge.”
