The No. 10 Washington University in St. Louis women’s soccer team celebrated senior day with a 4-0 win over Case Western Reserve University on Sunday afternoon at Francis Field. With the win, Washington U. clinched its second-straight and fifth overall University Athletic Association (UAA) title, and the automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.

“Scoring three goals in the first half gave our team a big boost today. This is a hurdle we have been trying to overcome all season,” said sixth-year head coach Wendy Dillinger. “The conference is competitive, top to bottom, so winning the UAA is a big compliment to how hard our team has worked this year.”
The Bears jumped out to a commanding lead at halftime with a season-high three goals in the first half. Junior Caitlin Malone gave the Bears the 1-0 lead in the eighth minute as she scored off a rebound from a shot from senior Marin McCarthy.
Sophomore Elyse Hanly made it 2-0 at 14:28 after taking a pass from sophomore Caryn Rosoff and drilling a shot from 20 yards out to the far corner. Junior Carly Anderson added the third goal of the half when she put a free kick from 25 yards out over the head of Case Western Reserve goalkeeper Kirsten McClain.
Just 24 seconds into the second half, Rosoff tied Malone for the team-lead with her eighth goal of the season after hammering a cross from McCarthy to the far corner to make it 4-0. The assist for McCarthy was the 13th of her career, moving her into a tie for 10th on the all-time list.
Senior Carrie Sear, junior Amanda Boe and freshman Katy Southworth split time in goal making five saves. Washington U. outshot Case Western Reserve, 26-11, and had an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Washington University (15-2, 5-1 UAA) concludes regular season play at the University of Chicago on Sat., Nov. 3, at 1:30 p.m.
