Siteman Cancer Center benefits from televised fundraiser

Siteman Cancer Center got quite a bargain when Brown Shoe Company, QVC and the Fashion Footwear Association of New York (FFANY) teamed up to offer half-price shoes at the 12th Annual QVC Presents “FFANY Shoes on Sale” event during October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The net proceeds benefit breast cancer research and education programs across the country. In 2005 Siteman was selected to be one of seven beneficiaries, who collectively this year received a total of $2.7 million from the 2005 event.

Siteman Cancer Center Director Timothy Eberlein, M.D., accepted the $313,450 contribution April 24 during a ceremony with FFANY representatives, Siteman doctors and Brown Shoe employees.

“We are grateful for the incredible support from Brown Shoe and the Fashion Footwear Association of New York,” said Eberlein. “Their generosity will further the innovative breast cancer research at Siteman. We are especially grateful to Brown Shoe CEO Ron Fromm for helping to make Siteman a part of this wonderful event that will help make a difference to breast cancer patients in our region and beyond.”

Fromm, who is also vice chairman of the FFANY board of directors and is a dedicated advocate for breast cancer research, introduced FFANY President Joseph Moore to the Siteman Cancer Center in 2005, when Brown Shoe became a special benefactor of the event.

“When FFANY asked us to step up our shoe donation we were pleased to do so,” said Fromm. “And we asked their contributions review board to consider evaluating the work being done at Siteman, a world class cancer center right here in St. Louis. The board was incredibly impressed at the breadth, depth, and professionalism of the research being performed. I could not be more pleased for Siteman, but more importantly for all of the women who will benefit from this important research. We at Brown Shoe are just proud to be a small part of this overall effort.”

The annual QVC Presents “FFANY Shoes on Sale” event, which will celebrate its 13th year on October 18, 2006, has sold over one million pairs of shoes and raised more than $22 million for leading breast cancer research and education institutions.

Dozens of brands, such as Brown Shoe’s Via Spiga, Franco Sarto and Naturalizer, as well as Nine West, Anne Klein, Calvin Klein, Coach Footwear, Michael by Michael Kors, UGG Australia, Cole Haan, Frye, Timberland and others, graciously donated designer and brand-name products to the event. Brown Shoe is a prominent supporter of this event, contributing $500,000 worth of shoes in 2005.
