Shantay Bolton, executive vice chancellor and chief administrative officer, served as keynote speaker at the Jennings Senior High School graduation ceremony May 27 at the Chaifetz Arena.

Nine local teachers have been selected by Washington University in St. Louis faculty for the Summer Teacher-Researcher Partnership, an innovative initiative from the Institute for School Partnership. The teachers will work in university labs, where they will participate in faculty research and develop lessons for their classrooms.

Gerald Early, the Merle King Professor of Modern Letters in Arts & Sciences, will serve as interim director of the Center for the Study of Race, Ethnicity & Equity at Washington University in St. Louis, effective July 1. Hedwig Lee and William Acree, both in Arts & Sciences, are stepping down as co-directors.

Stan Sweeney has been named executive director of campus life at Washington University following a national search, according to Anna Gonzalez, vice chancellor for student affairs. Sweeney formerly worked at Youngstown State University in Ohio.

The Organization for Human Brain Mapping has awarded its Glass Brain Award to Deanna Barch, of Arts & Sciences and the School of Medicine, in recognition of her influential work on the function of the human brain.

Brendan Heiden, MD, a surgical resident and cardiothoracic surgery research fellow at Washington University School of Medicine, received the Harborside Endowed Merit Award from Conquer Cancer, the foundation of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

Hillel J. Kieval, the Gloria M. Goldstein Professor of Jewish History and Thought in Arts & Sciences, has won the Silver Medal of the Faculty of Arts from Charles University in Prague.

Sophia Hayes, currently interim vice dean of graduate education and professor of chemistry, and William Acree, currently dean’s fellow for graduate education initiatives and professor of Spanish, soon will take on new roles that reflect their ongoing commitment to graduate education at Washington University.

Legail P. Chandler, vice chancellor for human resources at Washington University in St. Louis, was honored with a lifetime achievement award from the St. Louis Business Journal.

David H. Gutmann, MD, PhD, the Donald O. Schnuck Family Professor of Neurology at Washington University School of Medicine, has been elected to the Association of American Physicians.
