Ebony Carter, MD, assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the School of Medicine, helped develop a recent report released by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.

Adia Harvey Wingfield, professor of sociology at Washington University in St. Louis, has joined the leadership team in Arts & Sciences as associate dean for faculty development. In her role as associate dean, Wingfield works closely with Barbara A. Schaal, dean of the faculty, in ongoing efforts to support faculty across Arts & Sciences.

The Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals announced the  WashU Women Innovate (WIN) storytelling campaign won a Gold MarCom award. Created by Washington University in St. Louis’ Office of Public Affairs, WIN shines the spotlight on the university’s support of women founders, entrepreneurs and innovators.

The Academy of Educators at the School of Medicine introduced its inaugural class Tuesday, Sept. 24, in a ceremony at the Eric P. Newman Education Center. Also that day, the academy celebrated the graduation of the first class selected to the Teaching Scholars Program.

Washington University Libraries’ Film & Media Archive has successfully completed the project “Level Playing Field: Digitizing and Disseminating William Miles’ ‘Black Champions’ Interviews.” The project was completed with the support of a 2018 grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission.

Farshid Guilak, professor of orthopedic surgery at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been chosen to receive this year’s Senior Scientist Award from the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine Society.

The team that worked on the Mars exploration rovers Spirit and Opportunity received the Distinguished Science Award from the Huntsville, Ala., chapter of the National Space Club. The award recognizes outstanding contributions in research and discovery that expand knowledge and understanding of space. Raymond Arvidson, the James S. McDonnell Distinguished University Professor in Arts & Sciences, is the mission’s deputy principal investigator.

Cara Cipriano, MD, assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, and Kate Gerull, a medical student at the school, received a grant from the American Medical Association (AMA) Women Physicians Section and the AMA Foundation to conduct a multicenter study of gender factors that may influence students’ decisions to pursue careers in orthopedic surgery.

Kevin Moeller, professor of chemistry in Arts & Sciences, will receive a 2020 Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award for excellence in organic chemistry. The Cope Scholar Award is a national award sponsored by the Arthur C. Cope Fund and administered by the American Chemical Society. Only 10 recipients each year receive the award.

Associate professor Derek Hoeferlin has been named chair of the landscape architecture and urban design programs in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis.
