Thomas M. Maddox, MD, a cardiologist and professor of medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been selected to serve as a trustee of the American College of Cardiology, an international professional society for cardiovascular care providers. He will serve a three-year term on the board of trustees beginning in April.

Shanti A. Parikh, associate professor of anthropology and African & African American studies, both in Arts & Sciences, co-edited a collection, “@Ferguson: Still Here in the Afterlives of Black Death, Defiance and Joy,” published in social and cultural anthropology’s flagship journal, American Ethnologist.

Randall Martin, the Raymond Tucker Distinguished Professor at the McKelvey School of Enginering, has been awarded the Atmospheric Sciences Ascent Award from the American Geophysical Union, recognizing his excellence in research and leadership in the atmospheric and climate sciences.

Fangqiong Ling, assistant professor of energy, environmental and chemical engineering at the McKelvey School of Engineering, has been recognized by the International Water Association and the International Society for Microbial Ecology.

Dorothy, the small-press publishing project led by Danielle Dutton, associate professor of English in Arts & Sciences, and Martin Riker, senior lecturer in English, has won a Golden Colophon Award for Paradigm Independent Publishing from the Community of Literary Magazines and Presses.

Joni Westerhouse, associate vice chancellor and associate dean in the Office of Medical Public Affairs at Washington University School of Medicine, has received the 2020 Distinguished Service Award from the Group on Institutional Advancement of the Association of American Medical Colleges.

Lan Yang, the Edwin H. & Florence G. Skinner Professor of Engineering at the McKelvey School of Engineering, has been elected a 2020 Fellow of the American Physical Society.

The Department of Pediatrics at Washington University School of Medicine has named pediatricians Vikas Dharnidharka, MD, and Margaret Lozovatsky, MD, to the newly created roles of vice chair of clinical investigation and vice chair of clinical informatics.

Julie K. Schwarz, MD, PhD, professor of radiation oncology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been elected vice president of the Radiation Research Society. She will go on to serve as president beginning in October 2022. 

John Whitaker, a master’s candidate in landscape architecture and advanced architectural design, has won an Award of Excellence from the American Society of Landscape Architects.
