Bring Your Own Idea gatherings offer new opportunities for collaboration
Could a cup of coffee bring faculty across campus together to expand and enhance research and teaching while broadening perspectives? That’s the idea behind the Office of the Provost’s Bring Your Own Idea program, which awards grants to support gatherings of faculty from across Washington University in St. Louis around meaningful topics.
Grants awarded for diversity and inclusion projects
Diversity and Inclusion Grants totaling nearly $112,000 were awarded to 10 projects designed to strengthen and promote diversity on campus.
Washington University hires Title IX coordinator
To promote and strengthen a culture that proactively supports a safe and respectful learning, working and living environment, Washington University in St. Louis has appointed Jessica W. Kennedy, JD, to the newly created role of Title IX coordinator, according to Lorraine Goffe-Rush, vice chancellor for human resources, and Sharon Stahl, vice chancellor for students. The appointment took effect March 17.
WU-SLam places sixth at national college slam poetry competition
WU-SLam, Washington University in St. Louis’ spoken-word poetry group, placed sixth this month at the 14th annual College Unions Poetry Slam Invitational, the nation’s largest college slam poetry tournament. Here, junior Sam Lai performs.
Joe Pantoliani Assembly Series program is canceled
The Assembly Series program featuring actor Joe Pantoliano set for March 31 has been canceled due to a sudden change in his filming schedule. There are no plans to reschedule the event.
Biggs Lecture in Classics features acclaimed Athenian archaeologist John Camp
World-renowned archaeologist John M. Camp will give this year’s John and Penelope Biggs Lecture in the Classics for the Assembly Series. His lecture, “Greece between Antiquity and Modernity: View of Two Early 19th Century Travelers” will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 27, in Steinberg Hall Auditorium on Washington University in St. Louis’ Danforth Campus. It is free and open to the public.
Obituary: Murray Weidenbaum, noted economist, professor, presidential adviser, 87
Murray Weidenbaum, PhD, the Mallinckrodt Distinguished University Professor in Arts & Sciences and honorary chairman of the Weidenbaum Center on the Economy, Government, and Public Policy, died Thursday, March 20, 2014, in St. Louis. He was 87.
Pow Wow takes place April 5
The 24th annual Pow Wow, a festival of American Indian cultures at Washington University in St. Louis, will be held Saturday, April 5, in the Field House on the Danforth Campus. The event, hosted by the Kathryn M. Buder Center for American Indian Studies at the Brown School, is free and open to the public.
