Iconic American basswood to be replanted in Brookings Quad
For approximately 110 years, the American basswood in Brookings Quadrangle was a home to bees, a beautiful backdrop for Commencements and a shady refuge for students, staff and faculty. Now, thanks to a team of tree experts, the tree will live on.
Statement on Washington University Transgender Center
Washington University physicians will no longer prescribe puberty blockers or cross-sex hormones to minors for purposes of gender transition. Patients who are currently receiving this care through the Washington University Transgender Center at St. Louis Children’s Hospital will be referred to other providers for these services.

Choi, Pachynski receive research scholar awards
Jaebok Choi, PhD, and Russell Pachynski, MD, both of the School of Medicine, have received Research Scholar Grants from the American Cancer Society to support their research in oncology. Both investigators are research members of Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and the School of Medicine.

Stanley Paul Hmiel, MD, PhD, pediatric nephrologist, 64
Stanley Paul Hmiel, MD, PhD, a pediatric nephrologist at the School of Medicine, died surrounded by family Aug. 28 at a hospice in Creve Coeur, Mo., after a three-year struggle with colon cancer. He was 64.
