Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum at Washington University in St. Louis will remain closed to the public for the fall 2020 semester. However, in coordination with the universitywide COVID-19 response plan and health and safety guidelines, the museum will be accessible in a limited fashion to Washington University students, faculty and staff.

Since spring, Washington University has been planning for the upcoming fall semester to determine how to bring students, faculty and staff back to the Danforth Campus as safely as possible as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve in the St. Louis region, across the country and around the world. Today the university announced its plans for the start of the next academic year, which begins in August and September.

Genevieve “Jane” Reuter Hitzeman, who with her late husband, Herbert F. Hitzeman Jr., was a longtime supporter of Washington University in St. Louis, died Saturday, July 11, 2020, at Brookdale West County Senior Living in Ballwin, Mo. She was 89.

The Society for College and University Planning recently honored Washington University in St. Louis’ East End Transformation with its Excellence in Planning Honor for a district of campus component.

Graham Chapel at Washington University in St. Louis will join houses of worship across the nation in honoring the legacy of civil rights leader Rep. John Lewis, who died July 17, 2020. At 10 a.m. Thursday, July 30, Graham Chapel will ring its bells for 80 seconds, one second for every year of Lewis’ life.

Washington University’s International Travel Oversight Committee has announced its return-to-travel protocol for the fall 2020 semester.

Due to the continuing COVID-19 global pandemic, Washington University varsity athletic teams will not be competing during the 2020 fall sports season. “While the decision to cancel fall competitive schedules was not made easily, we remain committed to keeping the safety and well-being of our student-athletes and campus community front of mind,” said Anthony J. Azama, the John M. Schael Director of Athletics.

Cindy Lynn Norman, business office operations supervisor at the Brown School, died in her sleep on July 15, 2020. She was 50. Norman had worked at Washington University for 26 years.
