The 32nd annual Powwow, sponsored by the Brown School’s Kathryn M. Buder Center for American Indian Studies, will be held Saturday, April 22.
The event, which is free and open to the public, begins at 10 a.m. at the Field House at Washington University in St. Louis. Grand entry times are at noon and 6 p.m. The event includes dances, vendors, community and opportunities to learn about Native American history and culture.
The theme for this year’s event is “Connectedness is Medicine.”
“We look to one another as relatives, friends and allies,” said Pamela Begay, director of the Buder Center and an associate professor of practice at the Brown School.
“Those relations are what help us get through the positives and negatives in this life,” she said. “Our connections are also with plants, water, air, our animal relatives who we cannot forget. All of these components make up this connection and in turn are medicine to us. Let us do our best to remember this.”
