The global operations of multinational firms, including their impact on trade and labor issues, is the focus of a free Weidenbaum Center public forum featuring a presentation by global business expert Matthew J. Slaughter, Ph.D., at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 3, in the Bryan Cave Moot Courtroom.
Slaughter, associate dean and professor of international economics at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College, is a former member of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers. His talk — “A New Deal for Globalization?” — explores what’s behind the rising protectionist drift in business policy — both in the United States and around the world — and what business and policy leaders can do about it. The forum addresses knowledge creation and sharing within firms, how activities are structured across borders and the labor-market impacts of international trade.
Sponsored by the Weidenbaum Center on the Economy, Government and Public Policy, the program is the second in a series of Weidenbaum Center evening forums on topics related to “Multinational Enterprises and Global Political Economy.”
