Some things just run in the family.
Since coming to Washington University in St. Louis, Jonathan Karp, a senior English major with minors in physics and music, has performed with the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra, the Metropolitan Orchestra of St. Louis and numerous chamber music groups.
At 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, the Karp Family Quartet — which consists of Jonathan; his parents, Margaret and Benjamin; and younger brother, Aaron — will launch the spring Danforth University Center Chamber Music Series in Goldberg Formal Lounge.
The program will begin with String Quartet No. 22 in B-flat major, K. 589 (1790) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Next will be String Quartet No. 2 in A minor, Op. 13 (1827) by Felix Mendelssohn. Following intermission, the program will conclude with String Quartet in F major Op. 96 (1893) by Antonín Dvořák.
Margaret Karp is full time lecturer in violin and viola at the University of Kentucky College of Fine Art. Benjamin Karp is associate professor at UK and a former principal cellist of the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra. Aaron Karp is a sophomore at Northwestern University and former principal violist of the Kentucky Allstate Symphony and the Central Kentucky Youth Orchestra.
