The Coordinating Council for Diversity Initiatives (CCDI) has awarded 13 Diversity and Inclusion grants to Washington University faculty and staff for initiatives that improve the campus environment for women and members of underrepresented minority groups who are on faculty or staff at WUSTL.
The CCDI, which administers the grants, received 28 total proposals for the grants involving more than 100 faculty and staff members.
“This has been an energizing experience for the CCDI,” said Leah Merrifield, special assistant to the Chancellor for diversity initiatives. “We are anxious to see the results of these exciting and creative projects.”
Grant recipients were:
Jean Allman, Ph.D., the J.H. Hexter Professor in the Humanities in Arts & Sciences, $26,000, for “Common Ground — An Interdisciplinary Workshop on Race and Gender in Transnational Perspective.”
Brian Carpenter, Ph.D., associate professor of psychology in Arts & Sciences, $15,000, for “Managing Multiple Identities: Improving Awareness and the Campus Climate for Faulty and Staff.”
Adrienne Davis, J.D., the William M. Van Cleve Professor of Law, $10,000, for “Black Atlantic Speaker Series.”
T.R. Kidder, Ph.D., professor of anthropology in Arts & Sciences, $20,000, for “Interrogating Diversity: Race Class and Gender Across Time and Space.”
Ron King, Ph.D., the Myron Northrop Professor of Accounting, $15,000, for “Olin Business School Mentoring and Career Success Initiative.”
Tamara King, J.D., director of judicial programs, $10,000, for “Symposium: The Importance of Mentoring Relationships in the Careers of Traditionally Underrepresented Women of Color in Higher Education.”
Amanda Moore McBride, Ph.D., assistant professor of social work, $15,000, for “Toward Excellence in Diversity: Support for Community-Based Research and Teaching.”
Lisa Moscoso, M.D., Ph.D., assistant professor of pediatrics, $26,000, for “Peer Group Mentoring of Women Faculty.”
Patricia Olynyk, the Florence and Frank Bush Professor of Art, $12,000, for “Multiple Feminisms — a Lecture and Workshop Series Revisiting the Goals, Aspirations and Outcomes of Feminism Within the Humanities.”
John Russell, Ph.D., professor of developmental biology, $30,000, for “Diversity Research Scholars Visit.”
Naomi Daradar Sigg, coordinator for student involvement/multicultural leadership, $15,000, for “Train the Trainers: Diversity Awareness in the Workplace and Classroom.”
William Tate, Ph.D., the Edward Mallinckrodt Distinguished University Professor in Arts & Sciences, $15,000, for “Beyond Stock Stories and Folktales: African American Males and the Pipeline to the Professoriate.”
Luis Zayas, Ph.D., the Shanti K. Khinduka Distinguished Professor of Social Work, $30,000, for “The Serenade Program: Making Targets of Opportunity Happen.”
