Media briefing Oct. 6: Preparations continue for second presidential debate on Oct. 8

WHO: Steve Givens, chair of Washington University’s Presidential Debate Steering Committee; Don Strom, chief of Washington University Police; junior David Ader, president of Washington University’s Student Union; Amy Block, president of Washington University’s Graduate Professional Council; and senior Teresa Sullivan, founder of the St. Louis chapter of Project Democracy.

WHAT: Givens will discuss continuing preparations for the presidential debate at Washington University Oct. 8. Strom will address security issues. Ader and Block will discuss student-organized events surrounding the debate. Sullivan will discuss efforts to mobilize young voters.

WHERE: Washington University’s Athletic Complex, near the intersection of Forsyth and Big Bend. Take Olympian Way north from Forsyth Boulevard, proceed past the athletic field to a security checkpoint where a media ID will be required. Limited media parking will be available on a first-come, first-served basis near the Athletic Complex.

WHEN: 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6

IMPORTANT: Media ID will be required. Please allow time for traffic congestion in the area and for clearing security checkpoint.

NOTE: The Commission on Presidential Debates’ deadline for credentialing for the Oct. 8 debate has expired. The Commission will no longer be credentialing media for the debate in the Athletic Complex. However, Washington University in St. Louis will be issuing ID’s for media who want to be on campus Oct. 7 and 8 to cover other debate-related activities. Media who would like to be cleared to be on campus will need to be credentialed at the Credentialing Center (Room 410, Laboratory Sciences Building) by presenting a media ID or a letter, on letterhead, from the News Director of their organization.
