‘The Outwin: American Portraiture Today’

Immigration, the fight for social justice, the lives of vulnerable populations. In “The Outwin: American Portraiture Today.” 45 contemporary artists — selected by jury from more than 2,600 entries — explore a wide range of artistic approaches while responding to current social and political contexts. Organized by the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery, the exhibition is on view this fall at WashU’s Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum.

The Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts has received a two-year $100,000 grant from the Brabson Library and Education Foundation to support Fox Fridays, the school’s series of free interdisciplinary workshops.

Fashion design majors from the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts will present their work at 4 p.m. May 15 as part of the 92nd Annual Fashion Design Show. Filled with sleek silhouettes, saturated palettes and crazy-quilt textures, the show — titled “The Collective” — is a full-throated rejection of pandemic-era dourness.
