James M. DuBois, the Steven J. Bander Professor of Medical Ethics and Professionalism, and Kenneth M. Ludmerer, MD, the Mabel Dorn Reeder Distinguished Professor of the History of Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, have been named Hastings Center Fellows. The Hastings Center addresses social and ethical issues in health care, science and technology.

Dedric Carter, vice chancellor for operations and technology transfer at Washington University in St. Louis, has been appointed chair of the board of the Missouri Technology Corp.

Arts & Sciences doctoral candidates Sayed Kashua and Olivia Lott have won literary honors for a pair of recent books.

Denise Stephens will be leaving her position as vice provost and university librarian at Washington University, Provost Beverly Wendland announced. Stephens has been appointed dean of libraries at the University of Oklahoma, her alma mater, and will begin that role in May.

Ebony Boyce Carter, MD, a physician-scientist known for her research involving community-based interventions to promote health equity for pregnant women and their babies, has been named director of the Division of Clinical Research in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the School of Medicine.

Chenyang Lu, the Fullgraf Professor of computer science and engineering at the McKelvey School of Engineering, has been named a fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery

Matifadza Hlatshwayo Davis, MD, an instructor in medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the School of Medicine, has been appointed to the City of St. Louis Board of Health. Her term runs until February 2024.

James L. Gibson, who has studied and written extensively about the evolution of South Africa’s democracy in the post-apartheid era, has been elected to the Academy of Science of South Africa as an honorary foreign associate.

The Center for the Humanities in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis recently announced its 2021-22 cohort of faculty fellows. Faculty fellows spend a semester in residence at the center, giving them space and time to make great progress on their research and book projects.
