The American Institute of Architects St. Louis recognized Washington University in St. Louis’ Bryan Hall with a 2020 Merit Award in Architecture. Bryan Hall had at one time housed office and lab space for the McKelvey School of Engineering. It was transformed into additional research space for the Department of Chemistry in Arts & Sciences.

Seven faculty members across four undergraduate schools at Washington University in St. Louis have been honored with the 2020 Emerson Electric Co. “Excellence in Teaching” awards.

Barry A. Siegel, MD, professor of radiology and of medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has received the Gold Medal Award from the American College of Radiology for his more than 40 years of leadership in the nuclear medicine community.

John Baugh, the Margaret Bush Wilson Professor in Arts & Sciences, has been elected president of the Linguistic Society of America executive committee, which oversees the nonprofit body representing the country’s linguistics academicians.

Ronné P. Turner, vice provost for admissions and financial aid at Washington University in St. Louis, has been elected chair of the board of trustees of the College Board, a nonprofit organization that connects students to college success and opportunity.

Samantha A. Morris, assistant professor of developmental biology and of genetics at Washington University School of Medicine, has received the New York Stem Cell Foundation’s Robertson Stem Cell Investigator Award. The award recognizes outstanding early-career scientists and provides each $1.5 million over five years to support their research.

Collins E. Lewis, MD, associate professor emeritus of psychiatry at the School of Medicine, has received the 2020 National Citizen Scientist Cornerstone Award from the Global Alzheimer’s Platform Foundation. He was honored in recognition of his extraordinary efforts to support Alzheimer’s research by participating in and promoting diversity in clinical trials.

Toast of WU, one of three Toastmasters clubs at Washington University in St. Louis, attained Toastmasters International’s president’s distinguished level, the highest performance level achievable. In addition, some members achieved awards and served in Toastmasters leadership roles for the St. Louis district. 

Carl J. DeSelm, MD, PhD, assistant professor of radiation oncology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has received the 2020 Agilent Early Career Professor Award. The honor recognizes early-career investigators who have made major research contributions in their respective fields and show outstanding potential to continue making key future discoveries.

The Office of Sustainability has updated its virtual tour of campus sustainability features to include the various buildings and elements of the recently completed east end project.
