Nine alumni of Washington University earned Fulbright awards to conduct research or teach English this academic year. The program recognizes talented students who are committed to promoting global collaboration and understanding through research and teaching.

Deborah Veis, MD, PhD, professor of medicine in the Division of Bone and Mineral Diseases at the School of Medicine, has been appointed the next editor-in-chief of the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research Plus. Her five-year term begins Sept. 1.

The Washington University Review of Philosophy, a new annual journal of professional philosophy edited by undergraduate students, has published its inaugural issue.

Anna Gonzalez, vice chancellor for student affairs at Washington University in St. Louis, has announced new titles and roles for her leadership team.

Kenan Omurtag, MD, an accomplished fertility specialist, educator and mentor, has been named director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Washington University School of Medicine.

Ting Y. Tao, MD, PhD, assistant professor of radiology at the School of Medicine, has been named chief of the pediatric radiology section in the university’s Department of Radiology. Tao also has assumed the role of radiologist-in-chief at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.

Noor Riaz, MD, a pediatric hospitalist, has been named the 2021-23 Carol B. and Jerome T. Loeb Teaching Fellow at the School of Medicine.

Sumanth D. Prabhu, MD, an internationally recognized expert in how immunity and inflammation contribute to heart failure, has been named director of the Cardiovascular Division in the Department of Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine.

This year’s W.M. Keck Fellowships in Molecular Medicine have been awarded to three postdoctoral researchers at Washington University. The fellowships are funded with a gift from the W.M. Keck Foundation.

Rafia Zafar, professor of English, has co-edited a special issue of the African American Review dedicated to pioneering writer, historian and activist Arturo Alfonso Schomburg (1874-1938).
