A University Marketing & Communications team won a 2022 Regional Emmy Award Oct. 29, and received two additional nominations, from the Mid-America Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Ranen Miao, a senior studying political science and sociology in Arts & Sciences, was elected to serve as national director of communications for the College Democrats of America.

John F. DiPersio, MD, PhD, the Virginia E. and Sam J. Golman Endowed Professor of Oncology at Washington University School of Medicine, is being recognized by the American Italian Cancer Foundation with the 2022 Prize for Scientific Excellence in Medicine.

Sterling Blake Martin, a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Biology in Arts & Sciences, has been awarded a postdoctoral fellowship from the university’s Center of Regenerative Medicine, funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Brown School social work PhD student Woodjerry Louis has been selected to participate in the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s prestigious Health Policy Research Scholars program. Louis is the only Missouri student in the cohort of 40 students from across the country.

David A. Fike, professor of earth and planetary sciences in Arts & Sciences and director of the environmental studies program and the International Center for Energy, Environment and Sustainability, was installed as the Myron & Sonya Glassberg/Albert & Blanche Greensfelder Distinguished University Professor.

Carlos Cruchaga, at the School of Medicine, has received a 2022 Zenith Fellow Award from the Alzheimer’s Association. The annual award is given to scientists who have made significant contributions to Alzheimer’s disease research and are likely to continue to do so.

David Valentine-Elam has been named the inaugural chief privacy officer at Washington University, announced Monica Allen, vice chancellor and general counsel. In his role, Valentine-Elam works to ensure that the information of students, faculty, staff and research participants is protected.

The Fourth Annual Missouri Egyptological Symposium (#MOEgypt4) will take place Oct. 14-15 on the Danforth Campus. Nicola Aravecchia, assistant professor of classics and of art history and archaeology, both in Arts & Sciences, is one of the organizers of the event.

HomeGrown STL, a Brown School program aimed at improving community-level capacity to reduce inequality in Black adolescents’ healthy transition to adulthood, has won an inaugural Social Justice Innovation Award from financial firm Morgan Stanley and the nonprofit Centri Tech Foundation.
