A new oral history series on the contributions of pioneering plant genetics researchers includes online video interviews with two professors who have strong ties to Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis: Glenn Stone and Mary-Dell Chilton.

Sowande’ Mustakeem, associate professor of history and of African and African-American studies in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, has won the 2017 Wesley-Logan Prize in African diaspora history.

Bryan Meyers, MD, chief of the general thoracic surgery section at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been named chair of the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. Named to the position in September, he will serve as chair for two years.

Bin Cao, a Washington University postdoctoral researcher who studies how the placenta protects the fetus from infections such as Zika virus, has been named a 2017 Wunderkind by the national biomedical publication STAT News.

Cindy Brantmeier, professor of applied linguistics and education in Arts & Sciences, gave the  plenary address for the United Nations/UNESCO international conference on literacy in Chile in October.

Ron Himes, the Henry E. Hampton, Jr. Artist-in-Residence in Arts & Sciences, has received the Black Theatre Network 2017 Larry Leon Hamlin Producer Award for his work as founder and producing director of The Black Rep. Himes was honored during the opening gala of the National Black Theatre Festival, which took place in Winston-Salem, N.C., this summer.

Lauren Cubellis, a PhD candidate in sociocultural anthropology in Arts & Sciences, received a 2017-18 long-term research scholarship and intensive summer language course grant from the the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, or DAAD).
