Jeffrey G. Catalano, professor of earth and planetary sciences in Arts & Sciences, has been appointed the next executive editor of Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta, the official journal of Geochemical Society and the Meteoritical Society. His term will begin Jan. 1.

John E. McCarthy, chair and professor of mathematics and statistics at Washington University, was elected as a fellow of the American Mathematical Society. The society recognized McCarthy for his contributions to operator theory and functions of several complex variables.

Matthew J. Matava, MD, has been selected for the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame’s Enshrinement in St. Louis. A professor of orthopedic surgery and of physical therapy at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, he is one of 16 people selected for enshrinement in 2018.

Gaddis honored by emergency medicine organization

Gary Gaddis, MD, PhD, professor of emergency medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been named a fellow of the International Federation for Emergency Medicine. He is one of two American emergency medicine physicians to receive the honor this year.
