Iris Marie Chin, a senior majoring in biology in Arts & Sciences, has been awarded the 2019 Ralph S. Quatrano Prize. The prize is awarded to the thesis showing greatest evidence of creativity in design, research methodology or broader scientific implications.

Jennie H. Kwon, DO, assistant professor of medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been named a member of the National Academy of Medicine’s Health Policy Fellowships and Leadership Programs (HPFLP) Advisory Committee.

Daniel D. Picus, MD, professor of radiology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been awarded a Gold Medal from the Society of Interventional Radiology.

Michelle Purdy, assistant professor of education in Arts & Sciences, received the 2019 new scholar book award from the history and historiography division of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) for her book “Transforming The Elite: Black Students and the Desegregation of Private Schools” (University of North Carolina Press, 2018).

Jorge A. Di Paola, MD, recognized globally for his expertise in pediatric blood disorders, has been named director of the pediatric Division of Hematology & Oncology at the School of Medicine. He will begin his new position in late summer or early fall.

JPMorgan Chase & Co. recently awarded Washington University’s Skandalaris Center for Interdisciplinary Innovation and Entrepreneurship a $100,000 planning grant as part of its Ascend 2020 Initiative.

Five PhD candidates at Washington University in St. Louis were inducted into the Edward A. Bouchet Graduate Honor Society at the annual Bouchet Conference on Diversity and Graduate Education April 5-6 at Yale University.

Washington University Libraries has awarded the second annual Newman Exploration Travel Fund (NEXT) scholarships and grants to seven people, including faculty, staff and students.

Joel S. Perlmutter, MD, the Elliot H. Stein Family Professor of Neurology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been named scientific director of the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation. Dystonia is a neurological disorder that causes excessive, involuntary muscle contractions and abnormal postures.
