Lingchei Letty Chen, associate professor of East Asian languages and cultures in Arts & Sciences, has received a three-year, $195,000 grant from the Taiwan Ministry of Education.

Meaghan C. Creed and Jordan G. McCall, both assistant professors in anesthesiology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, have been named to the 2019 class of Rita Allen Foundation Scholars.

Kathleen McDermott, professor in psychological and brain sciences in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, is one of two recipients of the 2019 Psychonomic Society Mid-career Award.

Shumeng Jiang, a doctoral student in mechanical engineering in the McKelvey School of Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis, was part of a team that uncovered previously unknown cell behaviors.

The university’s Office of the Vice Chancellor and General Counsel is this year’s recipient of the Gerald R. Ortbals Law Practice Award from Legal Services of Eastern Missouri. The office and other honorees will be recognized during an awards luncheon Aug. 16.

Elijah Thimsen, assistant professor of energy, environmental and chemical engineering in the McKelvey School of Engineering, is a recipient of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Early Career Research Program funding. Thimsen was selected for his research into the structure of plasma-water interface.

Eileen G’Sell, senior lecturer in writing and in the Prison Education Project, both in Arts & Sciences, was a finalist in the 2019 Dorothea and Leo Rabkin Foundation grant program for visual art journalists.

Anne H. Cross, MD, the Manny and Rosalyn Rosenthal and Dr. John L. Trotter MS Center Chair in Neuroimmunology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has received the John Dystel Prize for Multiple Sclerosis Research from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the American Academy of Neurology. The award recognizes outstanding contributions to research in the understanding, treatment or prevention of multiple sclerosis.

This summer, Christopher Stark, assistant professor of music in Arts & Sciences, presented two world-premiere compositions at major venues for contemporary classical music.

Young-Shin Jun, professor of energy, environmental and chemical engineering, has been named a fellow by the American Chemical Society, the world’s largest scientific society. She is the first recipient from the McKelvey School of Engineering and the third at Washington University in St. Louis.
